Final week of holidays

Hey guys!

So yea... Nothing much happened recently. I can't remember what I did over the week but I do konw that I didn't do much. Yesterday I went down to Ngee Ann Poly to buy laptop stickers from Melanie's project and it was great to see her again. And I just got back my E-P1 from auntie Carol.

Nothing much left to talk about actually. School starting next week and time table are out. Seems like I only need to study at 2 blocks. Blocks 1 and 5. Can't wait for school to start. I feel like taking my E-P1 out with Zuiko Digital 35-100mm f2 with flashes to shoot portraits but it will take some time to plan I guess. Presentation in 2 days. Oh ya! My mother is gonna get me a new phone. Though I don't need... Why not? Since my phone is in pretty bad condition and well.. I'm getting Motorola Milestone, same phone as my sayang, but I won't be using it for long before I have to go for NS meaning I have to get the cheapo phone from 7-11. I can't wait to go back to poly to study. Still thinking where to go for diploma in photography...

Guess I shall stop here for now... Since I've nothing much left to update on. Good day everyone!

Hello Hurricane, then Vice Verses

Hey guys,

So today is Friday again, almost the end of the second week of my holidays and recently... Nothing much really happen except personal matters. My iPod classic had jamming problems and I finally got it scanned and repaired by my computer and now it plays without any problem whatsoever.

Selena Gomez released a new single "Round And Round". Personally, its pretty catchy but not my type of song but I'll still listen to it of course. And today I went to ITE College West and I admit, its pretty big... On the outside that is, but on the inside, its considerably smaller than poly. And I met Shanaz for the first time! Quite interesting though... The architecture design of the new ITE College West reminds me much of the architecture design of Lasselle (not sure of the spelling). There's a hotel, restuarants, 7-11 and even a Shop n Save! So much for being a school... Seems more like a shopping center. Air cons are definitely better than ITE Dover and the lifts as well... Facilities for everything, from classroom to labs to sports are so much better...

Speaking of Lasselle, I plan to take a diploma in photography but have yet to decide if I should go to SOTA (School Of The Arts) or NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts). Not even sure if SOTA has photography, but assuming if there is, and I qualify for either school, which one should I go to... I have yet to do any research so I shall have to do so.

Recently, I feel a void in my life tat isn't caused by family or friends. I am grateful for the love from friends and my family. People like my "brother" Hong Yao, my dudette Malathi, my sayang Ariyani, my crazy person Justina, my ITE brother Rizal all have special places in my heart and seriously, if they were gone, it'd be very saddening. P.S I know I sound gay but its the truth. But I guess the void is something that only my other half can fulfill. I know that I probably should be happy that I have friends and family and I am, but its just a void that cannot be helped.

I'd like to share a video from my favorite band Switchfoot, titled The Sound (John Perkin's Blues(.

"John M. Perkins is an American civil rights leader. Born in Mississippi to a sharecropper, he grew up in the dire poverty and bitter racism of the time. At the age of 17 his older brother was murdered at the hands of a town marshall, so he fled the state vowing never to return. Yet in 1960 Dr. Perkins and his wife, Vera Mae Perkins, felt compelled to go back to help the poor in rural Mississippi. Since then, Dr. Perkins has written numerous books, lectured across the world and has devoted his life to community development and racial reconciliation throughout the world. Dr. Perkins turns 80 on June 16th....this video is a tribute to his compassionate commitment to love the oppressed and the oppressor. His life is living proof that love does conquer all, including violence and hatred. Love is the final fight." --Jon Foreman, Switchfoot

I honestly do not know much about John M. Perkins. But it is sad that a TOWN MARSHALL, which I believe is somewhat similar to a police man, murder someone. For whatever reason, murder is still wrong. I salute to Dr John M. Perkins for his cause. Fact that racism is real and its a problem. Even within the same race, brothers fight each other to survive. As I've said before, so much for being the smartest creatures on earth, we're not very bright at all.

Recently, I've been listening to the album from Switchfoot, "Hello Hurricane" on my playlist in a loop. This is, in my opinion, the BEST album to date. And its said that their next record is titled "Vice Verses". The song has been played live and its a great song. And I seriously can't wait for another awesome album from Switchfoot.

Title list:
1. Needle and Haystack Life
2. Mess of Me
3. Your Love Is a Song
4. Sound (John M. Perkins' Blues)
5. Enough to Let Me Go
6. Free
7. Hello Hurricane
8. Always
9. Bullet Soul
10. Yet
11. Sing It Out
12. Red Eyes

Beginning with the song "Needle and Haystack Life", to me personally, is talking about living our lives with a goal, no matter how hard it is to achieve or even find it, much like a needle in a haystack, we have to keep on going and nothing is impossible if we do not try hard enough to achieve our dreams.

"Mess Of Me" is a song that talks about most problems that we face each day, "I am my own affliction, I am my own disease" probably refers to the fact that sometime, goals that we want to achieve consists of problems that are made by ourselves, not all but some are created by ourselves, for example, saying that I am unable to be good in something. One has to practice to be better. Sometimes when we do something, we make mistakes that can be pretty bad which makes us want to "reverse this tragedy". When we are faced with problems, often we want to hide from them due to fear or some other reasons, "There ain't no drug to make me well" is kinda like saying that there isn't anything in the world that can help you if you first don't help yourself.

"Your Love Is A Song" it like... How a song is always in your head, always around to be with you, songs can affect they way we think and feel, and when we have someone to love and love someone, nothing seems to tear you apart, love all around a person like music is all around.

"The Sound" I have nothing much to say about this, hahaha.

"Enough to Let Me Go" to me, is about letting your love one go, no matter how hard it may be. that no matter what we have to go through, because we love that person, we have to let them go and make their own choices.

"Free" probably talks about being set free, we're all locked by mine sets created by people, we need to be free to explore ourselves and to lead our lives. Things such as planned marriage by parents in the past may not exist now but someone like that.

"Hello Hurricane" talks about love and living. Nothing, not even a hurricane can tear you down if you're determined enough.

"Always", "Bullet Soul", "Yet", "Sing It Out" and "Red Eyes" are songs I still don't understand. Whatever I've said are the songs are purely what I feel. The songs by Switchfoot have always inspired me, always calm me, reminding me of everything. That is why Swtichfoot is my favorite band.

I'm looking forward to buying a softbox for my Metz 45 CL1 to use, hopefully it works well with my FL 50R and FL 36R. I seriously feel broke and I've gotta save for my trip to Hong Kong in March next year as well as pay off my bills and Macbook. Hopefully I can do it, with freelance jobs here and there adding in.

I did maintenance on Justina's laptop the other day and I was pretty impressed that it wasn't performing too bad compared to the last time I checked it. Good job Justina!

Currently playing the game "Transformers: War for Cybertron". It isn't too bad actually. I've gotta prepare my slides for First Friday @ SAM next Friday, 2nd July 2010. Come join if you can and want to learn more about the micro four thirds. I got my iPod to work with my Macbook for slide control and its pretty cool.

That's all for now. Hope to update more stuff soon. Hope to get new books to read and more assignments to shoot.

Have a good day everyone!

Rotting...

Hey guys!!!

So yea... Second week of holidays and I've ran out of things to do already... So lets see.... Friday I collected my E-3 and well... It was good as new... That was pretty much for my Friday. On Saturday I was at the scape launch as an official photographer and I cannot post any pictures till after Wednesday.

It was pretty tiring, 9 hours carrying E-1, E-3, 14-54, 7-14, 50-200, FL-50R, 45-CL1 with batteries and tripod and it was freaking tiring though tripod was only for a short while.

So on Sunday... I didn't do much either... Today... I didn't do much again...

So yea... That's pretty much it... Still considering if I should get umbrellas or softboxes... Ah well... Good night everyone!

Piercing Eyes

Hey guys!

So yea... I meant to blog last night... I turned on my laptop and fell asleep... Again...Sooooo.... I met Rizal and Fizah on Wednesday morning in shorts and slippers BECAUSE! If anyone remembers, which anyone should since it's like 2 days ago... There was a storm in the morning which flooded Orchard Road and yea... I had to take an umbrella to Singapore Poly. I met them and we went to Macdonalds to have breakfast before going to Jurong Point to get tickets for Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time. We walked around before settling down at Mac Cafe for a drink and then we went to watch the movie.

Personally... I find the movie was pretty good for a movie adapted from a game. Currently... Thinking about it... I don't remember any other movies based on a game. And people... What I'm gonna say is very gay... But guys and girls will agree with me, not all but there are... The actor for Prince Dastan is charming... Seriously man... And the actress for Princess Tamina... Apparently she acted in James Bond The Quantum Solace as the agent with short red hair who died in mud or chocolate... I don't know, but yea... Apparently its her...

As to the title of my post, the actress... Her name is Gemma Arterton. In the movie... She has piercing eyes... I'm somewhat attracted to people with amazing eyes, brown, blue, green... Especially those bright ones

In the movie, the people were saying "The princess is a beauty without equal" and in the movie... That is seriously TRUE! I guess the director/s thought it would be good to find not so pretty girls to act inside? but somewhat... There wasn't too many girls anyway... That's probably why BUT! You have to agree that Gemma is beautiful here. She looks good as a brunette despite being a red head? Not too sure whats her actual hair colour. And the funny thing is! The movie is "The Prince Of Persia" right? According to my sister, Persia is in the middle east... Although the movie isn't all Middle Eastern people... The princess had a British accent! WTH!??!? Ah well... Its just a movie anyway... And one thing... Gemma looks like she's in the late 20s approaching 30s or in her early 30s right? At least to me... She does... But apparently... She's born in 1986 meaning she's 3 years older than I am! A little hard for me to believe actually but well... Believe it

So after the movie... I went down to Olympus to get my check, I was expecting a check from HSBC, OCBC, POSB or DBS, but the check was from some bank that says "The bank of tokyo-mitsubushi YFJ, LTD". But yea... Kinda interesting to see this check though. And my E-3 was repaired finished, just that I didn't have money to pick it up. Pretty fast eh? 2 days and its done, they rushed it out for me, hahaha.
This is what they changed for me, the prism unit though apparently... Only the LCD in the viewfinder is problematic but ah well...

Side track a bit... This seems to be the longest post I've done in awhile.

So on Thursday morning... I went out to collect my Metz flash before dropping my cheque at the bank. I came home to test my Metz flash and it sure feels good to have it back! I came home to rest before taking a bus to Great World City and changing to another bus to get to this place called Chashew Heights? Never heard of it before, never been there before. I went there to grab some books from a fellow moderator in Clubsnap since he's moving house. And he gave me a ride home. Nice guy really.

So yea... Here my Metz with my E-P1

Here is my "name card case" though it says "Cigarette Case"

That's all for now... Will update again tonight... If I have anything to write of course... Have a good day everyone!

Busy Day

Hey guys!

So yea... This morning I met Rizal at Dover to go to Singapore Poly for breakfast and also to set up his Macbook and we spent more or less the entire morning until after like 2 just to install some programs on Mac OS and trying to get Windows to work properly... For some reason... The new CD with Bootcamp drivers 3.1 doesn't really work well, I ended up taking it home.

So I went home to test my graphics card and took a picture and then rushed to Bugis to meet the dudette(Malathi) but I changed my graphics card first and now its working great! Thing is that... I waited really long just to change it and I ended up reaching Bugis at 4:45pm thinking I was late and I waited for 2 or 3 trains before walking up and down looking for the dudette before going back to the mrt at 5:15 to see if she was there. Lo and behold! She was there so we went to pick up the tickets and went to catch Furry Vengeance!

The movie wasn't too bad though seriously... Brandon Fraser really got fat. After that we went through Bugis Street so she could buy a clock and then we went to Mac to have a drink and chat because some idiot spoilt her mood. We went back to the shop to get the clock though... And I found a cigarette case which is really cool and I got it for $4.90 to hold my name cards... Hahaha, kinda weird but thinking of a way to hide or remove the words cigarette case, it is not printed on by the way, otherwise I would have just scratched it off.

That's pretty much it for today... Meeting Rizal and Fizah tomorrow for breakfast before going to catch Prince Of Persia! Almost finished with setting up Rizal's mac with some problems to school software that requires the help of the teacher because I'm not too familiar with the program. Good night world!

Mess Of Me

Hey guys

So yea... This morning... Rizal and I went back to ITE Dover to take some photos for Miss Ester and after that, we went to SP to have my brunch since I didn't have anything in the morning. After that, we took a train down to Toa Payoh to meet his family. We went to the Toa Payoh library to borrow a couple of books and there are another few books which I have not seen before.

After that, we went to Tajong Pagar to buy his Macbook. We went our separate ways after that. I dropped off at Tiong Bahru and walked to Valley Point to send my Olympus E-3 for servicing. There wasn't any display in the view finder.

I went home and watch Robocop the movie and it was surprisingly vulgar. It was filmed in 1987, before I was born so I had no idea how vulgar it was, and there was a little nudity, and its a little gory as well... So much for being a kids cartoon...

That's pretty much it for today. And the title... Mess Of Me by Switchfoot...

There ain't no drug, there ain't no drug
There ain't no drug, the sickness is myself
I've made a mess of me, I wanna get back the rest of me
I've made a mess of me, I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
I've made a mess of me, I wanna reverse this tragedy
I've made a mess of me, I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
The rest of my life alive

Everyone makes their own life problematic and everyone else makes other people's live problematic without knowing. Kinda saddening actually... Especially for supposedly the most intelligent life form on earth... But yea... Everyone makes mistaken and regrets them, wishing we could take it back but its impossible, so I guess its important to learn to forgive and forget and accept each other for who they are.

I'm off to bed now... Haven't had a good sleep in awhile... Hopefully I have a good sleep tonight. Good night world!

Museum!

Hey guys!

So yea... Nothing much happened recently except I had a large pizza recently, all by myself, which is probably the only "interesting" thing.

Anyway... Today I went with Jia Zhen to get her E-P1, she initially wanted an E-PL1 but decided to go for E-P1 as the staff suggested because there was promotion. The staff tried to psycho her to get the Sony NEX but she ended up going to the PENs, lol.

So we walked towards the National Museum of Singapore to visit my dear friend Malathi and take pictures. We wanted to go to the 1960s exhibition but sadly... It was closed so we went to some other exhibition which was apparently free after 6. And I saw those old large format... I believe, that were huge! Easily my height and seems complicated yet easy to operate. And it had Carl Zeiss lens! Not bad for an exhibition eh?

So... Pictures!

After that we waited with Jia Zhen's dad to pick her up before we had dinner at Long John Silver at Plaza Singapura. On the way... I kept disturbing Malathi by saying yawn to her so she would yawn (I suffer from the same fact... Yawning as I'm typing). After eating... We went home... Problem is.... We took the north south line heading for Punggol because we were too engrossed talking to each other and didn't realize we had taken the wrong train. We got off at Farrer Park (if I remember correctly) and went opposite before going home.

That's it for today... I'm beat and I'm off to bed! Good night everyone! Sweet dreams!

Pentax 645D As Seen By Me

Hey guys... Currently in school and have got nothing to do so I shall do my own.... Err... Pentax 645D opnions by myself? Ignore the title and what I just said, basically it will be a little thought by myself about the Pentax 645D digital medium format camera. I won't be posting test images for 2 reasons.

1. They aren't mine
2. I never took any since I don't and will never have a set (in the near future) to play with because its too ex and I don't know anyone from Pentax, so yea... On with the thoughts!

And by the way... Here is the link in case you didn't see my previous post.

First off... Lets talk about the camera body itself. The front looks like the old film medium format cameras and the shutter area seem to be the same as Nikon cameras but of course... There is only so many ways to design something, so no matter though I PERSONALLY do not like the way Nikon turns their cameras on and off, if Pentax follows the same, I probably won't like it much cause I always turn it off by accident.

Moving to the back, and instantly I'm kinda dazed by the number of buttons because my own Mamiya 645 has none on the back cause its film, mainly dials. The buttons on the back of the Pentax 645D is more or less on par with my E-3 in the number of buttons but this Pentax has a mode dial. which has the standard P A S M, along with USER which I believe is customize, B which is bulb, X is something new to me and TAv, I think its similar to program shift, not really sure about that. We also have a screen on the top panel.

The grip reminds me of the E-1 grip, big and thick just the way I'd prefer due to the fact I have big hands. It uses SD cards and I believe SDHC as well, and can take 2 cards instead of one. Call me old fashion but I'd prefer CF cards. We also have DC in, video out, USB as well as HDMI which seems to be becoming a norm.

Inside, we have a 40 megapixel sensor. A lot of people asked me, "how many megapixels do I need?" and frankly speaking, is a very old question that I'm getting tired of answering. If you got the dough, go get the Pentax, 40 megapixels can print billboard size with ease. But prepare to buy loads of hard disks as well, 1 jpeg is approx 15 megabytes. 40 megapixels is just too much for me, I'd stick with my E-3's 10 megapixels and my E-P1's 12 megapixels thank you very much.

Similar to my E-3's auto gradation feature, the Pentax has a D correction function for either highlight or shadow, not sure if there is both but most likey not needed so might not be present. The D correction highlight recovered a little bit from what I can see, not too bad really. But the downside is, there is only on or off, not a big down side for me considering the D correction shadow has off, low, medium and high. But due to translation issues, it says off, weak, in and strong. The weak isn't so bad but not much seems to be recovered, the in and strong seems to reduce contrast so its a no no for me.

We also have HDR on it, though not really the HDR we're used to where colours are saturated and details are retained in both shadows and highlight. This HDR, to me, seems similar to the auto gradation on my E-3 and the exergerated one seems a bit flat.

I'm not so picky on noise and the Pentax 645D has a range from 100 to 1600 and it seems pretty good at reducing noise and still being sharp. As expected partially due to the bigger sensor since in the film days, as far as I understand, the equivalent ISO rating for medium format or even large format as compared to 35mm film, is less grainy. But when I started, I only use 35mm, I've only ventured into medium format recently.

There is 8 settings for the scene, brilliant, natural, person, landscape, ya, faintly, reversal film and monotone. Take those names with a pinch of salt again due to translation issues. I never really venture into these, not even on my own DSLRs and I shoot mainly RAW now, so I won't touch on this and would let you see for yourself.

As for Out Of Camera (OOC) JPEG and RAW files, the RAW seems to be brighter after conversion and flat whereas the JPEG seems duller and darker.

In terms of colours, its not really to my liking, I can't really explain it, but there is something off about it as compared to Olympus, which is reputed to be good with OOC JPEGs though I mainly shoot RAW.

Conclusion, this is a big camera where I will not use it anywhere else but in the studio shooting for companies. 40 megapixels is overkill for me and the price is just too much for me, I can actually buy a Zuiko Digital 300mm f2.8 lens with that money! If I save a little more, that gives you a rough idea of the price.

Please take note though... Whatever I say here is not based on touching it but by looking and it is my opinion, which we're all entitled to. If you like the Pentax, good for you, if you don't, look for something else. If you don't like what I said, too bad for you as well, if you like what I said, thank you very much. Take what I said with a pinch of salt as we all are different, we all see different, what I see may not be the same for what you see and what I feel is definitely different from yours. This is my own personal opinion of the Pentax 645D.

A few days of entry

Hey guys!

So yea... Again a few days without entries... Nothing much to update with recently... So this will be short... School is ending in 2 days, friday there is flag lowering ceremony since we're moving. Still considering if I should go since its very boring...

Other than that... Nothing much... My Metz flash has been repaired finish waiting for collection, still waiting from my pay from Olympus from the March IT fair. MARCH IT FAIR! Now is June... So damn long... Going to some places with Justina. Doing quarterly check up and maintenance for her but this time... Opening up and cleaning the interior as well as under the keyboard... Gonna be a heck of a job but ah well... Since holidays got nothing to do.

Wanna do some shoots but don't know what to shoot. But I guess I'd find something to shoot... That's all for now I guess... Will be doing a opinion based guessing of the Pentax 645D medium format camera tomorrow. Good night everyone!

Nothing much yet again...

Hey guys...

Well... As I've stated in MSN (for those who know me and/or has my E-mail), life has been quiet recently so nothing much to blog. Anyway... I've finished my MD project 1 yesterday. Filmed the remaining and edited and submitted today. Nothing much has happened though. Though for some weird reason... The muscle on my right back is aching, like just one particular spot and I never even exercise or hit anything on the particular spot.

So yea... Guess that's all for this post since I have nothing much to say today. Good night everyone!! Good luck Justina and everyone else for your common test!
